How I Can Help

There is no “one size fits all” in psychotherapy. I draw from a variety of psychological frameworks to provide the type of therapy best suited to your situation and personality. We may choose to focus on current symptoms and behaviors, utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy and/or mindfulness practices (meditation, visualization, etc.) to relieve stress and enhance your performance in a particular area. We may engage in a more psychodynamic course, exploring the ways that past relationships and experiences have influenced your current relationships and beliefs. Addressing trust and communication may be top priorities for couples or family sessions.

Whatever the method, my goal as a therapist is to help you work through the problems you are experiencing, so that you can move on to enjoy a life that is productive and fulfilling. I accept you for who you are and where you are in life right now. We will work together to discover and develop your own unique gifts, your inner resources that will help you get past the challenges that life presents.

When working with children, I follow the same philosophy. Employing a combination of play therapy and “talk therapy,” I help children to address emotional concerns and situational problems. I respect each child’s individual temperament and help him or her to focus on the positive aspects of his/her personality traits. Parents participate in counseling to better understand their family’s dynamics and to improve relationships among all family members.

Teens need confidantes and role models, and they often seek to meet these needs outside their immediate families. In our sessions, I strive to help teens find their own voices in an increasingly stressful and confusing world.
